Dominique Magee: Hockey Inspired Erie Senior Portraits

Senior portraits are an exciting time for students. The photos represent a pivotal moment in their lives: the ending of one chapter and the start of a new one. One of my favorite things about photographing Erie senior portraits is that each of them have so much personality they bring to the shoot. Unlike wedding events, senior portrait sessions give me the opportunity to work one-on-one with each student. Class of 2019 graduate Dominique Magee’s senior portrait session was a lot of fun. I had the pleasure of working with Dominique’s mother last summer, when she was a bridesmaid in Angie and Justin’s elegant backyard wedding in Erie, PA.

A Love for Hockey

Dominique’s personality is heavily influenced by her passion for hockey. Dominique has played Defense in the sport since she was only five years old. She was Tier II level of the Erie Lady Lions and was also a part of the Cazenovia Lady Chiefs and the Pittsburgh Vipers U19 team. Her love for the sport was evident throughout this entire portion of her shoot. Her smiled showed a confidence and familiarity that I loved to showcase. We shot the hockey portion of her senior photos at the Erie Insurance Arena, home of the Erie Otters Hockey Club. It was the perfect location to highlight this special part of Dominique.Girl dressed in hockey gear for Erie senior portraits sessionGirl hits a hockey puck toward goal net during Erie senior portraits sessionGirl laughs during hockey themed Erie senior portraits

Downtown Erie Senior Portraits Session

Although hockey is a large part of Dominique’s life, her athleticism is not the only side of her we wanted to represent in these photos. We did the second part of her senior photo session at the 14th and Peach Street railroad underpass. This downtown Erie location provided an interesting backdrop to tell the other part of Dominique’s story.Erie senior portraits of laughing girl holding leather jacket under 14th St. underpassDancing girl Erie senior portraitsUnder 14th St. underpass teen girl looks at camera for Erie senior portraits

A Bright Future Ahead

It’s always an honor for me to photograph a big moment in someone’s life. Senior portraits are no exception. I love getting the chance to get to know people on a more personal level. As is the case with all the seniors I have the privilege to photograph, these portraits are a reminder of the person that was, but also a sign of the person that Dominique is becoming. Working with Dominique was a real pleasure and I know she’s going to do great things in the future.Girl stands next to graffiti walk during Erie senior portraits
