Over the years Matt Mead Photography, LLC has done its’ fair share of corporate headshot jobs. So, we’ve decided it’s time to make head shot portraits a staple in the LLC’s toolbox. 2016 started off with doing the corporate head shots for Mercer Cleveland, Mercer Pittsburgh, and LCBA in Erie. In order to expand my portfolio, the LLC is hosting an open house and offering one free headshot to those who sign up. With our first event fast approaching, I thought it’d be a good time to share my tips for taking a headshot you’ll be proud to post.
Your headshot is the reflection of your professional persona, so you want it to make a stellar first impression. Based on what I’ve learned from my experience and Peter Hurley’s The Head Shot, here are some simple tips to be prepared to take your best head shot:
- Dress Appropriately – Keep in mind that potential employers, staff, or customers are going to see this and have this be their first impression of you. To quote Hurley, “You need to scream confidence and approachability!” That begins with clothing. Dress as you would when meeting a new client or going on a job interview. Choose an outfit that makes you feel good in a color that accentuates your eyes.
- Low-Key Hair and Makeup – As I mentioned in the first tip wear your hair and makeup like you would at work, regardless of your job. Now is not the time to try a new makeup or hair technique.
- Relax and Have Fun – Above all else, just have fun with it. How often do you get to play act in front of a camera during your workday? Unless you’re an artist, actor or musician, I’m guessing not much. So just roll with it and enjoy yourself.
